All-Electric Jeep Compass with 700km Range Expected This Year

Jeep enthusiasts rejoice! The next generation Jeep Compass is set to debut later this year with a complete overhaul, including a brand new design, platform, and the exciting addition of an electric version boasting an impressive 700km range (WLTP).

The new Compass will sport a sharper, more aggressive profile with sculpted body panels for a nimble appearance. Both the front and rear will receive a significant design refresh, likely including a modernized version of the iconic Jeep grille, new headlights, DRLs, bumpers, fog lamps, and taillights. The interior is expected to get a major upgrade as well, featuring a multi-textured finish and an integrated screen layout for a modern and tech-savvy feel. Driver assistance features are also expected to receive a significant upgrade.

STLA Medium Platform Paves the Way for Electrification

The new Compass will be built on the advanced STLA Medium platform, which is already being used by the Peugeot 3008 and Opel Grandland. This platform's modular design allows for various body styles and powertrains, including electric, hybrid, and internal combustion engines (ICE). It can also accommodate a wider range of vehicle sizes, potentially positioning the new Compass as a mid-size SUV compared to the current model's compact size.

Electric Powertrain with Impressive Range

The STLA Medium platform supports a 400-volt electrical architecture and can be equipped with electric motors ranging from 220hp to 390hp. Battery packs of up to 98kWh can be integrated, offering a standard range of 500km (WLTP) and a potential maximum range of 700km with the performance pack. The platform also boasts excellent energy efficiency, with a consumption rating of 14kWh per 100km. Additionally, fast-charging capabilities are expected, allowing users to charge from 20% to 80% in just 27 minutes.

Global Debut and Future Availability

The new Jeep Compass will likely debut first in North America and Europe, aligning with Stellantis' commitment to becoming carbon net zero by 2038. This could lead to the Compass becoming an electric-only model in some markets. However, Jeep is expected to continue offering ICE options in regions like India for the foreseeable future.
