The highly anticipated Mahindra Thar 5-door, soon to be known as the Thar Armada, has been spotted undergoing final testing near ARAI in Pune. This larger, more versatile version of the beloved Thar is slated for launch on August 15th, 2024.

Off-Road Beast with Added Functionality
Thar enthusiasts will be happy to know that the 5-door version retains the off-road prowess of its predecessor. Mahindra has managed to incorporate additional doors for improved passenger access without compromising on its rugged capabilities. This makes the Thar Armada the ideal all-in-one vehicle for adventure seekers with families.
Fresh Design Touches
The new spy shots reveal a new dual-tone black and silver alloy wheel design, hinting at the subtle design updates planned for the Thar Armada. Expect a slightly different grille design alongside the familiar circular headlamps, prominent bumpers, and flared wheel arches. The longer wheelbase promises a more imposing road presence.
Premium Comfort and Tech Features
The Thar Armada goes beyond just function. The interiors boast ergonomic seats, a dual-zone climate control system with rear AC vents, a rear center armrest, and a sunroof for enhanced passenger comfort. Modern touches include a fully digital instrument console and a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system likely borrowed from the XUV400 EL Pro.
Safety First
Safety remains a priority with the Thar Armada. Expect six airbags, a 360-degree surround view system, front parking sensors, and potentially even ADAS features like automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist on higher variants.
Powertrain Options
The Thar Armada is expected to borrow the proven engine options from the 3-door Thar – a 2.0-litre petrol engine generating 150 hp and a 2.2-litre diesel unit making 130 hp. Both engines will likely receive tweaks for improved performance and efficiency. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Launch, Price, and Competition
The Mahindra Thar Armada is expected to launch with a starting price of around Rs 15 lakh. Initially, only 4x4 variants will be available, with 4x2 options coming later. The Thar Armada will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the recently launched Force Gurkha 5-door in the Indian market.
